Year 1 | This weeks work for home learning - Numeracy

by Miss Bennett and Miss DeSanctis

This week some children have started attending school again. Therefore, where possible, the work we ask you do complete at home will be in line with what we are teaching in school.

For numeracy this week we would like the children to do some work on comparing length and height following the White Rose home learning plan.

Go to Summer Term - Week 2 (w/c 18th May) and complete the lessons there.

There is a video for each lesson and then a worksheet that you can print or write your answers on a piece of paper. Do 1 lesson per day.

Lesson 1 Compare length and height

Lesson 2 – Measure length

Lesson 3 - Measure length 2

Lesson 4 – Introduce weight and mass

Lesson 5 – Friday Maths Challenge

When they have practised, they can do some addition and subtraction and number bonds games on the 2Dos on Purple Mash.

We look forward to hearing from you

Take care

Year 1 | This weeks work for home learning - Literacy

by Miss Bennett and Miss De Sanctis

This week some children have started attending school again. Therefore, where possible, the work we ask you do complete at home will be in line with what we are teaching in school.

For literacy this week we are focusing on writing sentences with capital letters and full stops.

Look at the picture below. Think carefully about what is happening in the picture and write a sentence about it.  We would like you to write it down using a pencil and lined paper. If you would like to send us a photo of your sentences or type it into the comments when you are happy with it, we would love to see it.
Remember capital letters go at the start of a sentence and are used for names.

Full stops go at the end of a sentence.

Challenge: Can you include an adjective in your sentence?

We look forward to hearing from you

Take care

Miss Bennett and Miss De Sanctis

Year 6 | This week's Reading Challenge

by Mrs Collier

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a happy half term.  I was really impressed by all the intelligent things you had to say about my last challenge.  Sorry that I'm posting this week's reading challenge on Wednesday instead of Tuesday! I'll try to stick to Tuesdays from now on!

Challenge One - Please recommend a book to the rest of your class.  Say the book you recommend and why you think your friends should read it.  I recommend The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl to children of all ages because it's a little bit scary but it's funny too and it has a happy ending for the children in the story.

Challenge Two - Please have a look at this poem and blog the answers to the questions underneath it.

1. What is the boy wearing on his feet?

2. What does it mean when the poet says he is "speeding" round the house and down the street to the shops?

3. How does the boy feel when he is kicking the tennis ball?  How does the boy feel in the last picture when he has kicked a hard brick wall?  Why is he feeling like that?

Lastly, I am always happy to hear about what you're reading at the moment when you post comments on the blog.

Year 1 | Summer

by Miss De Sanctis and Miss Seymour

Year 1 had a fantastic first day back at school yesterday.

We have been learning about the seasons throughout this year in Science, so as it was such a beautiful day we went to the Old Moat garden to spot some signs of summer.

The children then discussed what they had found and how the garden had changed throughout the year and the different seasons.

Challenge -

Can you spot some signs of summer at home in your garden or at the park?

Please comment on the blog to let us know what you can find.

Extra Curricular | Churning Butter

by Mr McCormick

We have been having so much fun in Pod KW1 this week! We have been learning about farm animals and where our food comes from.

Yesterday, we 'milked' a cow!

We used cream to make butter today. We put the cream inside a bottle with two marbles. We shaked, shaked, shaked, until we could see butter inside!

We've got some super muscles now after all that shaking.
