Music

Music is well and truly alive at Old Moat!  In EYFS, we use Little Wandle for nursery rhyme singing in Nursery; our EYFS curriculum sets out singing and other practical music work and the children make good use of the musical instruments available to them in the provision.  The sound of singing fills the wider school on Fridays, when our professionally trained opera singer comes in to teach singing.  This partnership with Primary Robins, though Grange Park Opera, has transformed practical music at Old Moat.  Years 5 and 6 work with Scott Sinckler of One Education to learn to play steel pans.  It's a truly joyful sound and all children are able to be a part of the music-making.  We use our music programme Charanga so that our music curriculum as taught by class teachers complements practical music tuition.

Music appreciation is taught through Charanga and we have a curated playlist drawing on the government's Model Music Curriculum for assemblies to ensure that our children have the cultural capital that will enable them to understand a diverse musical diet and navigate their lives as listeners.

"Teaching is good and outstanding practice is evident."
